something I have observed is that people aren't very celebratory about anything on Mastodon. And when people are celebratory, there are always people trying to shoot people down. Twitter is for people who want to watch the world burn, but Mastodon is for those who want to remain in misery. And those are two different things. The reality of this hit me on Valentine's day, when people were talking over the legacy of st. Valentine who is basically one of the first recorded marriage equality activists in history. a lot of what I saw was people trying to shut down Valentine's day for present-day political issues. Shouldn't those things be important all the time and not just when you're shouting down the historical figure? Another piece of evidence is when someone posted about how they lost two followers when they posted that their partner had accepted their marriage proposal.
